Our History

SEADLING began with our founder, Simon Davis, whose first encounter with seaweed farming in 2015 after sailing a yacht across the Pacific Ocean, sparked an unexpected obsession.

He was joined by renowned seaweed expert Melania Lynn Cornish and a growing team of passionate scientists. Together, they set out to create innovative, nutrient-rich ingredients from this remarkable superfood while building a farming model that delivers the highest-quality seaweed, empowers coastal communities, restores ocean ecosystems, and stands resilient in a changing climate.

That early passion became the foundation of SEADLING’s mission and continues to drive our work today as we build the future of seaweed: for nutritious food, healthier oceans, and stronger communities.

2018: Founding & Growth

In 2018, Simon founded SEADLING to unlock seaweed’s potential. What started with five people has grown into a multidisciplinary team working across aquaculture, fermentation, and biotechnology.
